BIM is the future of construction planning and management especially in India, with so many houses and construction projects being constructed and sanctioned each day.
What if we integrate BIG DATA and AI machine learning algorithm to learn about the design procedures by architects and designers? As many countries like Singapore and many countries in Europe have implemented BIM for their construction regulation works.
We worked on the project to devise a system for managing town planning and construction activities using BIM. Currently, town planning is done by inferring to a number of paper-based documents of past records, but once BIM is implemented it will be possible to have more data at disposal and the system of planning itself can be eliminated.
Here are a few things that are possible.
Better City planning
At present most cities in India face problems of planning and coordination, land use is a huge mess as it wasn’t planned. With a system of BIM integrated portals, planners and execution experts would have a better implementation of the design and town plan.
Cost efficient
As the construction process is based on BIM workflow and the data available is sufficient to eliminate miscommunication problems on site, it would help save the cost of repair and demolition. Due the 6D visualization, the architect and consultants can have a virtual analysis of the project proper to execution and save on investment. This project could be especially useful in India’s economic housing projects, providing cheap homes and projects with quality control.
Eco-friendly
BIM models have a lot of detail and with the incorporation of material properties the model becomes especially useful and guiding towards an eco-friendly use of materials. Also, the project design can be visualized and designed to avoid any harm to the environment especially in areas of sensitive habitat.
Intelligent Design
With the availability of the data and records of the previous design, procedures can be reused and the task of designing can be simplified by the use of the software tools.
Use of AI
Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence could be used for the purpose of town planning and design, with too many people uploading their project design on system servers the data can be fed to servers anonymously and by use of machine learning algorithms, the software could be trained to provide solutions to the complex design problems. The software can predict the design corrections and probable problems that could arise from the project. As machine learning could eliminate the need of intensive human works. The side effect of the this could be mass unemployment of people working in the construction and planning sector.
Disaster Prevention
Human settlements are prone to be influenced by disasters due to natural or human intervened disasters. Having the town-planning and detailed network of the projects and buildings with their detailed data regarding the use and strength parameters, it’ll be easier to assess safety or refuge zone under disaster conditions.
This information, on the other hand, can be used by anti-social elements to create hazardous conditions.
Better Bureaucracy
Since the major aim of the technology is to end corruption and other malpractices prevalent in the construction sector. With the use of the technology, it’ll be possible to track down corrupt elements.
Well, this technology has its own pros as well as its cons, the real effect lies in the probability of implementation and utility. Currently, there are a number of obstructions before the implementation such as the technical knowledge, infrastructure, and funding. BIM is already being implemented in most countries across the globe and it is a matter of time where it’ll become an industry standard of practice. These were just a few ideas I had about the possibility of BIM and scope It'll open in the future. Some may say that it will increase unemployment but I'm positive that it'll create a new category of jobs just as it had happened during the industrial revolution.
