"Most of you have written to me about your past experience about hiring a language tutor and how things didn't work out", this was the sentence that I had heard on a Podcast just on the second day of my Arabic learning adventure and I was like Hell no, I'm not off those looser, I'll be better off!
Yes, I was wrong and a failure at that adventure, I still rejoice over the excitement when I took the demo lecture, went through the syllabus, talk with the institute people, and ponder the possible benefits of knowing another language. Then I paid the big fees and started with the training.
The training went well for a few days, then due to a few professional responsibilities, it was getting difficult to manage time for practice and coordinate for the training program. The initial package that I was offered was of 3 days a week for 3 months but then since we were two students, the teacher had offered to take the class together and she told me that the training will be conducted every day. So we had agreed that the class will be conducted every day and I was of the notion that this will be 6 days a week for 3 months but in reality, the program was crashed to a lower duration.
So this 6 days a week was great from a learning perspective but when it comes to practicing it was a disaster. So we barely got any chance to practice.
Here I would like to clarify that the tutor was trying her best to help us out but the system that we had in place was a glitch and the following are key learning in the social interactions:
- Before we altered the training plan we should have thoroughly discussed all the implications and document it correctly.
- Having the workflow/lesson plan finalized before you start the entire program?
These were a few things that I would suggest to have finalized before you have a tutoring program, I was expecting a lot from the course but couldn't have much of any output. It is wisely said that services are intangible and it often becomes difficult to make get a real idea of what you are paying for or what you're signing up for unless and until you have actually taken it up.
As it goes, there are a lot of good courses available online in the form of recorded sessions and most tutors are generous enough to give support through chat or email or even over a call.
That's it for this, I would highly suggest that you take reviews and ask for references from their previous students. It might sound like you're being very suspicious but it is a very step in the learning process.
