It is very much of a problem when trying to align a particular side of a wall or a slab panel in a cast unit drawing or shop drawing. I've had a situation wherein the panels were being aligned in an incorrect way.
It was a problem of the software as the rules and view settings setup for the cast unit drawings worked well for simple geometries, with complicated shapes view created somehow didn't aligned well with the settings. Imagine a trapezoid with no sides parallel, the unit drawings though created were good but didn't match the standards that I wanted them to have as the sections cut on the drawings were coming out to be weird.
I had to get at least one side parallel to length of my page, this was a difficult task or at least with the knowledge I had with the unit detailing area.
I tried the rotate view setting in the view properties but for that to work you need to have the values and measuring angles is a bit of a pain in Tekla, you need to have it accurate to the decimal values which is another problem as with minor deviations the lines might appear to be slanting. This is a very discouraging workflow and I hope Tekla comes out with some native solution to this problem.
The solution I got found:
On Tekla's website I go to know about a component that allows you to rotate views in the drawings. I won't plagiarize anymore and directly include a link to their website instead.
You can see a video here that explains the entire process. In a nutshell I would say you just need to install the plug in and when you're in a drawing just run it. Select a view and click on the play button that you see on the plug in.
Then it'll ask you to click 2 points which are to be aligned and after that it'll rotate the drawing for you.
This saves a lot of effort and is better than manually keying in some value into the view properties dialog box. There's a catch though in the plug in there is a setting that allows you to control if you want to rotate a single selected view or rotate all the views based on that changes.
I generally rotate a single view.
You can download the plug-in from this link here
I hope this'll be useful, feel free to comment with your experience and if there's a better way to do it.
